Kelly slowly opened her left eye. She then followed by slowly opening her right. What greeted her was an expansive black and a blinding vertical sliver of white. The brightness? Painful. Was she dead? No. Couldn't be. It all felt too real. But if she was dead, how would she know? She’d never died before to know what "dead" felt like. She only knew the finality of it.
